Personality

+ Frolicsome, Sharp-Witted, Curious
= Flamboyant, Frivolous, Fickle-minded
– Chauvinistic, Egomaniac, Immature

Azurillion is a complete and utter brat — selfish, entitled, and insufferably pompous. Worse still, he's a raging chauvinist and an unapologetic (disclaimer: fantasy!) racist, forever sneering at the so-called "bigsy-folk" whom he deems as blundering fools far beneath the dignity of faekind. His prejudice usually manifests in (mostly harmless) tricks and pranks, which he plays with great delight at some poor human's expense. Frankly, no sane soul would ever wish to keep company of this arrogant little princeling. And yet, for all his excessive flaws and bigotry, Azurillion holds onto a surprising naivety and an odd sort of innocence. He gazes upon the wider world with wonder rather than spite, secretly fascinated by the very "bigsy-folk" that he views as stupid and inferior. Beneath that haughty veneer lingers a strange yearning to understand others, and to be understood in return. This sentiment has only deepened now that he has been banished from his own home and kin, forced to co-mingle with the inferior "bigsy-folk" in the same bumbling, human-sized body that he so disdains.Of course... the princeling would never admit he might actually long for friendship with these lesser beings though!

Background

The youngest sibling and the thousandth prince(ss)ling of the Violetears, Azurillion spent a lavish half-century basking in the indulgence of being the family's most doted-on, pampered fledgling. Naturally, he grew up spoiled absolutely rotten. His was a carefree life among the glades, darting through the lush undergrowth of the Hidden Gardens and sipping the sweet, succulent nectars of the Ever Blooms. From time to time, he defied the elders' warnings and slipped beyond the grove to meddle with the 'bigsy-folk", those towering, clumsy creatures that he adored to trick. His harmless mischiefs often left them bewildered and bumbling, much to his delight. He would giggle and guffaw, mocking any poor soul foolish enough to stumble into one of his many entrapments. But Azurillion was no fool. He took great care never to be caught, though with how dull and witless the "bigsy-folk" were, it hardly required any effort on his part.Everything was perfect. The days were golden. Life was bright, beautiful, and blissfully his. Until one midsummer's night...The one thousand and oneth prince(ss)ling was born.Azurillion was no longer the most adored little fledgling of their flock. His crown of favor, once so secure, slipped quietly from his head. He watched as the other Violetears fawned over their newest born, cooing and chirping over the littlest fledgling. For the first time in his life, an ugly emotion reared its head within his feathered breast.Bitterness. Resentment. Envy...The littlest fledgling was adored. Adored more than he had ever been! Azurillion huffed with indignation. What right, no what audacity this insolent chit had to steal his place amongst the nest!Azurillion could not bear it. And so, with a heart twisted in wicked jealousy, Azurillion began to scheme. He cozied up to the littlest fledgling, knotting their days with laughter and fun. To the littlest fledgling, Azurillion was the dearest of their siblings, always seeking him to play! And Azurillion, ever sly, lured the guileless little thing into his tricksy games with the "bigsy-folk" teaching them all the fun but none of its dangers. One day when the fledgling came to him eager to play their usual games, Azurillion turned them away. In a childish fit, the littlest fledgling darted off alone to try the tricks without him.And oh, what a delight when the "bigsy-folk" caught him, carrying him away in a cage to who knows where! Azurillion's breast swelled with vindication! Certainly the fool had only gotten what they deserved!Little did he know, that their mother, the Great Matriarch of the Violetears had seen all. Her stern gaze fell upon him, cold as steel and just as sharp. She cast her judgement upon him:"My foolish child. Such petty cruelty has no place within our Garden. Begone from our home."And just like that, he was banished. Not only banished, but cursed! The Matriarch shackled him with the very same shape he so despised: a blundering, human-sized body! With cold scorn upon her face, she further decreed:"You shall not return to the Hidden Gardens until you have found the littlest one and brought them back."And so, Azurillion was cast out, left to stumble through the vast and bigsy world he had once mocked from the safety of the Hidden Gardens.Yet in that moment of exile, a boon — if boon it could be called — was granted. A voice, unknown and disembodied, whispered to him as he passed beyond the treelines for the first time:"A Fool you are, and a Fool you shall remain.""Seek the Wolves, if you would seek your Little One."Lost and bewildered in this world not his own, Azurillion nevertheless began to find his way forward, seeking the ones that this voice told him of...Azurillion made his way to the Pale Wolves.

Misc. Info

  • DESIGN NOTES | Azu's design is loosely based off the Common Bluebottle, the American Spatula Tail, and the Purple Crowned Fairy.

  • THE VIOLETEARS | A rare avian faekin found only within the Hidden Gardens, a little flowering haven found deep in the forests of Orthros. All the Violetears are the children of the Matriarch, who gives birth to each and every prince(ss)ling by plucking the longest of her tail-feathers and imbueing it with her long life-essence. Thus, all her children look identical to her though much smaller in size, usually ranging from around 5 inches (infant) to 12 inches (mature) tall while the Matriarch herself stands a whole 2 feet tall.

All Violetears are born sexless. Some Violeteers will choose their gender-expression upon maturation, but this is usually just an emulation of other Nadiran cultures. Many of the Violeteers do not concern themselves with the idea of sex or gender at all especially since most live in relative isolation, sequestered away from outside influence. Yet, there are always a handful that sprite themselves away to the strange and curious world of the "bigsy-folk" as they call them.

However, because of the several unfortunate incidents when some of their siblings had been captured and put on display in cages, there is a general distrust and distaste for the "bigsy-folk" within the Violetears. Most of the elder Violetears discourage leaving the safety of their Garden all together. Still, the younger and more reckless Violetears like Azurillion dare to venture outside of their borders to play tricks on the foolish "bigsy-folk" and a couple Violetears have even left the Hidden Garden forever to integrate into the outside world for good, never to return again.

  • ARCANA MARK | Azurillion did not notice the mark left behind by the Fool for the longest time as it was on his lower back which was not visible to him. The Fool left him the stippled markings that only a fledgling Violetear would have upon his feathers, though these glowed with a faint light. It was a bitter reminder of the littlest fledgling he had lost and of the immature little fledgling that he had been.
